Dynamic Data Placeholders

Learn how dynamic data placeholders automatically personalize content based on who's viewing it.

What are Dynamic Data Placeholders?

Dynamic Data Placeholders (DDP) function as intelligent tags that populate with the appropriate information depending on which user is accessing the content. They also retrieve contextual data such as specific dates (current date, document creation date, and more). Any Custom Field you establish will automatically generate a corresponding DDP.

You’ll encounter DDPs throughout Unificus. They’re accessible in text editors whenever you’re working with Portal Pages, Documents, Help Messages within FLOWs, and similar areas. The placeholders are organized by category and use color-coding to make them simple to recognize.

DDP Categories

Targets

These tags relate to Target information. They appear in both Company and Contact CRM Dashboards and can be displayed in their Profile when you add Target Custom Fields.

Contacts

These tags relate to Contact information. They display in the Contact’s CRM Dashboard and their Profile when you create Custom Fields for Contacts.

Company

These tags relate to the Company connected to the Contact. They can reference Public or Private Company Custom Fields.

Organization

These tags relate to your business. This includes elements you’ve white-labeled your account with, such as your company logo and name.

Staff

These tags relate to Staff Members in your system.

Coordinator

These tags relate to Coordinators in your system.

Salesperson

These tags relate to Salespeople in your system.

Invoices

These tags relate to the Invoice linked to your Client. When using these placeholders, you may need to specify which Invoice to reference.

When an Estimate is the only available option, these tags will display Estimate information instead.

Projects

These tags relate to the Project associated with your Client. When using these placeholders, you may need to specify which Project to reference.

Documents

These tags relate to Document content. They include specialized options for generating signature boxes and adding page breaks, enabling multi-page Documents without requiring each page to be completely filled.

Proposals

These tags relate to Proposal content. They include an option for adding page breaks, allowing multi-page Proposals without requiring each page to be completely filled.

Subscribers (Marketing)

These specialized tags are available exclusively in Email Marketing.

When building Marketing Campaigns or Drip sequences, you can add a Fallback value to your placeholders. If the DDP contains no value, the fallback value appears instead.

For example, this placeholder inserts the Subscriber’s First Name.

Adding a word in the placeholder location allows you to set a fallback. If the subscriber was added as ‘email only’ and their name isn’t available, the fallback word is used instead.

How do I use Dynamic Data Placeholders?

You’ll typically recognize that DDPs are available when you spot the {x} icon within a text editor. Below is an example from a Portal Page.

Select this icon to see which DDP categories work in this section of Unificus.

The DDP Categories display on the left side of the window. Click each category to view its available placeholders.

Any Custom Fields you’ve created for that category will also display in the list.

Use the Search Field to filter through available DDPs. This proves helpful when you’ve created numerous Custom Fields and need to locate a specific one quickly.

In areas without a text editor, such as On-Demand Invoice Generators, the available DDPs appear below the field.

You’ll need to copy or manually type these into your content.

In Email Templates, the DDPs available for each field type display at the top of the page.

Select the DDP to copy it to your clipboard.
